Responsibilities
- Supervise and lead the deck crew, providing clear instructions and guidance for their daily tasks.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols and best practices to maintain a secure working environment.
- Oversee the loading, unloading, and securing of cargo to optimize efficiency and prevent damage.
- Coordinate with the captain, engineers, and other departments to facilitate seamless vessel operations.
- Conduct regular inspections of equipment, ensuring proper maintenance and prompt reporting of any issues.
- Manage inventory and requisition supplies to support ongoing operations and avoid shortages.
- Implement and uphold company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements on board.
- Prepare and maintain accurate documentation, including crew reports and operational logs.
- Foster a culture of teamwork, collaboration, and professionalism among the deck crew.
- Train and mentor new crew members, fostering their growth and development within the maritime industry.
Experience
- Extensive experience as a Deck Foreman or in a similar supervisory role within the maritime industry.
- Profound knowledge of vessel operations, including cargo handling, safety practices, and maintenance.
- Familiarity with relevant maritime regulations, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills to effectively manage and motivate the deck crew.
- Strong problem-solving abilities, capable of making quick decisions in challenging situations.
- Organizational skills to maintain inventories, records, and documentation efficiently.
- Physical fitness and adaptability to work in a dynamic and sometimes demanding maritime environment.
- Certifications such as STCW (Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping) and other relevant qualifications are a plus.
